From a slide deck to an interactive course
For a single-topic course of about 15 minutes, the whole project takes 3 to 5 weeks. Production is rarely the slow part; material and approvals are. So here is exactly what you need to prepare.
What to prepare
Solid boxes are required, dashed boxes help. Missing something? We can still start, and I'll list the gaps first.
Required
- Existing training materialSlides, SOPs, manuals, internal training sheets, any format
- Training goalWho the learners are and what they should be able to do afterwards, in a sentence or two
- One content reviewerAn engineer or training lead who can confirm technical details
- Language and delivery formatVoice-over language; offline web package or your learning platform
Optional
- Photos of equipment, products, the shop floorFor modelling and reference; they don't have to appear in the course
- Drawings or 3D filesCAD or STEP files make the 3D parts more accurate and faster
- Brand guidelinesLogo, colours, fonts
- GlossaryYour internal terms and abbreviations
- Existing quiz questionsIf there are none, I'll write them from the content for you to approve
Who does what
| Step | I do | You do | Output | Typical time |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 01 Brief | A 30–60 minute video call about learners and goals | Join the call, send one existing document | Proposal and quote | 1 day |
| 02 Material | Organise the material, list gaps and questions | Fill in the checklist above | Content outline | 3–5 days |
| 03 Script | Write the narration line by line, with a visual note for each line | Review technical content, one round of changes | Storyboard sheet | 3–5 days |
| 04 Style sample | Finish one complete scene, with voice-over | Approve the look and the voice | 1 sample scene | 2–3 days |
| 05 Production | Animation, 3D, voice-over and quizzes for every scene | Nothing; progress is visible any time | Full first version | 7–10 days |
| 06 Review | Apply feedback | Watch the whole course, send one set of comments | Final version | 3–5 days |
| 07 Delivery | Package, test browsers and platform | Try it on your own computer or platform | Course package and guide | 1–2 days |
Two rounds of revisions are included: one on the script, one on the first version. Content changes after the script is approved are quoted as extra work.
How long each size takes
Counted from the day the material is complete.
| Size | Content | Timeline | Good for |
|---|---|---|---|
| Interactive 3D demo | 1 machine or product: explode, labels, quiz | 1–2 weeks | Equipment structure, product intros, trade shows |
| Standard course | 1 topic, 10–20 minutes, animation + voice-over + quiz | 3–5 weeks | Onboarding, safety rules, a single process |
| Course series | 3–8 modules with 3D scenes, multilingual if needed | 6–10 weeks | Full job training, shared across plants |

Common questions before starting
We only have a slide deck. Is that enough?
Enough to start. In step 2 I list what's missing; most gaps can be filled in one 30-minute Q&A.
Is the voice-over human or AI?
AI by default: fast and easy to revise, with every technical term checked for pronunciation. A human voice can be arranged.
Do we need to supply 3D files?
No. CAD files make it more accurate; without them I build an illustrative model from photos and drawings.
Where does the course live?
The offline package can sit on a shared drive or intranet, inside your existing learning platform, or on a link I host TBD.
How is confidential content handled?
I'm happy to sign an NDA. The portfolio only shows de-identified versions, and never your company name without your consent.
